Easy Dog-Friendly Hikes Near Denver (Plus Easy Walks)

I spent 3 months living in Denver as adigital nomad with my senior pup, and we enjoyed the great outdoors almost every day. After work, we did easy hikes and relaxed walks, and on weekends we occasionally went longer, including one ambitious thirteener.

For the most part, though, we stuck to shorter, stress-free hikes and walks. I’ve put together a list of our favorite easy dog-friendly hikes near Denver that are perfect for an evening or low-key weekend adventure.

So leave the dog boots and snow gear at home–you won’t find any fourteeners or tough alpine hikes in this guide!

Easy Dog-Friendly Hikes Near Denver

These dog-friendly hikes are all within about 45 minutes of Denver and range from easy strolls to slightly more challenging foothills trails.

Alderfer/Three Sisters Park

Difficulty: Easy
Trail system: Multiple trails, over 16 miles combined
Location: Evergreen Map

A beautiful foothills park about 40 minutes from Denver with several well-maintained, dog-friendly trails. It’s easy to take as long or short of a hike as you like.

Mount Galbraith

Difficulty: Moderate
Distance:~4.2 mile loop
Location: Golden Map
Alltrails

This is the most challenging hike on this list, but it’s still very doable if you and your dog are comfortable with some elevation and rocky terrain. Expect great views and a solid workout without committing to an all-day hike.

Lair O’ the Bear

Difficulty: Easy
Location: Idledale Map

Lair O’ the Bear Park has several gentle, scenic trails that follow Bear Creek. It’s an especially good option in warmer months when your dog might appreciate shade and water nearby.

Reynolds Park

Difficulty: Easy-moderate
Location: Littleton Map

Reynolds Park has several dog-friendly trails. I highly recommend the Eagle’s View loop (4.2 mi). Rolling terrain, open views, and a quieter feel compared to some busier foothills parks.

Lookout Mountain

Difficulty: Easy
Location: Golden Map

Lookout Mountain is a popular foothills area with several dog-friendly trails and viewpoints. It’s close to Denver and easy to access, making it a good choice for a quick hike or walk with your dog, though it can get busy, especially on weekends.

Easy Dog Walks Near Denver (Flat and Low-Commitment)

Prefer a flat terrain? No problem! Here are some easy, low-commitment walks in the park, literally.

Daniels Park

Location: Castle Pines Map

Known for its bison herd and wide open grassy areas, Daniels Park feels more like a scenic walk than a traditional hike. Bonus: some of the best sunsets near Denver.

Cherry Creek Hike and Bike Trail

Location: Denver Map

This paved multi-use trail stretches for more than 24 miles, making it easy to choose a short out-and-back or a longer walk. A solid option for casual dog walks close to the city.

Washington Park

Location: Denver Map

I lived near Wash Park, and it’s absolutely where I’d stay again. With mountain views, a large pond, and wide paths, it’s ideal for evening dog strolls and low-stress walks.

Another great Denver park with paved paths, open green space, and a relaxed neighborhood feel, which is perfect for an easy dog walk without leaving the city.

Final Thoughts: Easy Dog-Friendly Hikes Near Denver
